Jo Johnston
Head of Finance
First Gig:
Michael Jackson, Aintree Racecourse, 1988.
Proudest moment of your event career so far:
Becoming fully CIMA qualified in 2020 after a LONG break from studying to have my family.
Favourite event you’ve worked on:
Camp Bestival ... a beautiful, magical experience for everyone involved. Pure enchantment in a castle by the sea.
After graduating, Jo began her finance career in a small family run embroidery factory in Liverpool, where she learned the basics of financial management, met her husband, and started studying CIMA. In 1997 she saw an advert in the Big Issue for a Finance Controller in a brand new radio station that was about to launch: Crash FM. She met Janice Long who was the founder, and joined the team for a fantastic 6 years full of fabulous people, creative devas, hard work, late nights, a spell in sales, and no CIMA studying! In 2003 she had her first son and left the station, working part time locally until joining Ls Events (then Loud Sound) in 2008 when it was still based in Liverpool. She has looked after the LS Events finances ever since, and although she hasn't done any site roles for a long time, it's something she intends to do again in the near future.
